Welcome to 4th grade! I look forward to working with you and your student this year.
On Friday, May 20, 4th grade will be performing at Spirit Day with their recorders.
CAASPP Testing
Our class will be taking the CAASPP test once a week, for 4 weeks, on Tuesdays beginning on April, 26, 2016. The first two weeks will be ELA testing and the last two weeks will be math testing. Please make sure that your student is at school on time as we will be testing first thing in the morning. Your student should come to school well rested after eating a good breakfast.
Active April
On Monday, April 4, 2016, Active April began! Your student was given an Active April calendar to keep track of the days that he/she completes at least 30 minutes of physical activity. Students are asked to be active at least 3 days a week for the entire month. At the end of the month, your student needs to return his/her Active April calendar on May 2, 2016 to the P.E. coach.
End of Trimester 2
Due to the end of Trimester 2, ALL late work (including homework) will be due no later than Friday, February 19, 2016.

Chapter 3 Science Test
We have finished Chapter 3 in science. Students should have completed a total of 17 flashcards for the academic vocabulary words in this chapter. Please review the chapter as well as the academic vocabulary words with your student for the upcoming test. Students will complete the chapter test on Tuesday, January 26 and Wednesday, January 27. The words for this chapter are listed below:
mineral, luster, cleavage, streak, hardness, Mohs' hardness scale, ore, magma, lava, igneous rock, sediment, sedimentary rock, fossil, pressure, metamorphic rock, geologist, rock cycle

Chapter 2 Science Test
We have finished Chapter 2 in science. Students should have completed a total of 12 flashcards for the academic vocabulary words in this chapter. Students will be tested on the words Thursday, November 19, 2015. Please have your student review the words and definitions to be prepared for vocabulary test. The words for this chapter are listed below:
ecosystem, abiotic factor, biotic factor, pollination, seed dispersal, accommodation, endangered, extinct, adaptations, camouflage, mimicry, and genetics

Students will take the chapter concepts part of the test on Friday, November 20, 2015. Students should reread the chapter in order to be prepared.
End of Trimester 1
Friday, November 6, 2015, will be the last day to turn in any late homework from this trimester! The last day to meet Trimester 1 AR point goals will be on Thursday, November 5, 2015 as the trimester officially ends that day!
Social Studies Test-Chapter 4
We have finished Chapter 4 in S.S. Students will be taking the test on Tuesday, October 27. Students should study their 2-column notes for all 7 explorers, the Manila Galleon, and the 9 vocabulary words from this chapter. Students are welcome to take their S.S. book home in order to prepare for this test.
Redlands Orkidstra Field Trip
We are attending the Redlands Orkidstra on Thursday, October 22. Students will need to be at school around 8:15 as we will be loading the buses at 8:30. We will be back to school by noon. The permission slip for this event was sent home with your student today. Please sign and return the permission slip by Wednesday, October 21, 2015.
Trimester 1 Book Report-Nonfiction
Your student has been assigned a book report. The Nonfiction Book Report information sheet was sent home on Tuesday, October 6, 2015. Your student will need to choose a topic and follow all the steps on his/her direction sheet.Please cosign and return the bottom of the book report information sheet by Friday, October 16, 2015. The book report project is due on Monday, November 16, 2015.
Science-Chapter 1
Students will take the remaining portion of the Chapter 1 Science Test on Wednesday, October 7, 2015. Please review/study the content throughout Chapter 1 to be prepared.

We have finished Chapter 1 in science. Students should have completed a total of 19 flashcards for the academic vocabulary words in this chapter. Students will be tested on the words Friday, October 2, 2015. Please have your student review the words and definitions to be prepared for the Academic Vocabulary test. We are performing at Spirit Day on Friday, September 25, at 9:00 am. We will be reciting a poem and singing 2 songs. Please have your student wear red, white, and/or blue. We hope to see you there!
Renaissance Home Connect
A letter was sent home with your student today that contains information on how to connect to Renaissance (Accelerated Reader). You can use the website, username, and password to connect to your student's AR account. This will enable you to receive an e-mailed report every time your student takes an AR quiz.
TENMARKS-Online Math Program
We will be using TenMarks, an online math program to provide your student with opportunities for additional math practice. On TenMarks, your student can practice and master math concepts one topic at a time. They can work on assignments I make, or choose to practice on their own, anytime. While they are practicing, your student will have access to hints if they get stuck, as well as a short video tutorial if they need more detailed explanation. I have set up your student with their own individual account. He or she can access TenMarks from any computer to continue working on the program at their own pace. The TenMarks password/login information sheet was sent home, Tuesday, September 8, 2015.
Binders/Homework Agenda
On Monday, August 17, 2015, students assembled their binders during class time. This binder will be used daily for the entire school year. In the binder your student should have 5 tabs that are labeled as followed:

Your student also received a Homework Agenda today. Each day your student will fill out their nightly homework assignment(s) as well as other important information in his/her Homework Agenda. This will keep you informed of daily homework assignments as well as upcoming projects and events. Any missing or incomplete homework assignments will be highlighted.If your student did not have his/her supplies or was absent, he/she can bring in his/her supplies and I will help him/her get set-up during morning recess.

In order to "Join This FusionPage," you will need your student's school ID number to create your account. This can be accomplished by clicking the "Parent Resources" tab on the left hand side of Wildwood's homepage
and then selecting "Create Parent Online Account" on the left hand side of the "Parent Resources" page. Once your account has been created and approved, then you will be able to join my page. Please contact me, brandy_smith@ycjusd.us, if you need your student's ID number. Joining this page is the best way to stay informed about what is going on in class!

  • 1 pack 3x5 white lined index cards
  • 1 roll paper towels
  • 1 box of Kleenex
  • 1 package of baby wipes
**I would also recommend that your student bring in an individual pencil sharpener with a cover for his/her own use.**

Our classroom can always use donations of Kleenex boxes, paper towels, & reams of copy paper.
